Safety is of utmost importance in the way we operate and do business at Heritage.

We aim to prevent and mitigate health risks by promoting a ‘culture of well-being’ for the individual, organization and community. The role of the Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) department at Heritage is structured around 6 areas:

Process Safety Engineering

 

Achieving Operational Excellence

Responsible for establishing the Process Safety Framework, Standard & Procedure in alignment with OSHA 1910.119. This involves the development, implementation, and management of Process Safety Elements, for example, Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR), HAZOPs and Process Safety Information (PSI) etc. The PS team addresses the closure of identified Process Safety related challenges and other corrective measures required to mitigate Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) and Asset Integrity issues to achieve Operational Excellence.

Crisis and Continuity Management and Emergency Response (CCMER)

 

Emergency Planning, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.

Provides the basis for managing crises, emergency events and business disruptions within Heritage operating area incorporating arrangements for multi-agency integration. The team ensures adherence to ICS principles and Heritage’s Three-Tiered Response management system from Field Operations Team, Incident Management Team to Business Support Team. The CCMER Team processes include emergency planning, preparedness, response and recovery.

Environmental and Regulatory Compliance

 

Waste Management Systems, Biodiversity, Pollution Prevention and Control, Environmental Monitoring/ Auditing, Training and Awareness.

Provides technical support in the interpretation and integration of HSSE compliance obligation requirements to Business Units, reporting to Regulatory/Overseeing Bodies (e.g. incidents, compliance reporting), acquisition of and ensuring facilities meet requirements for regulatory approvals (e.g. Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC), Source Emitter Registration, permits, OSH Agency etc.), Greenhouse Gas Management, Environmental Sustainability Reporting, Environmental Social and Governance (ESG), Environmental Impact Assessments, Operating Management System (OMS), Risk Management System, Environmental Management System (EMS), Occupational Health and Safety Management System, and oversight of HSSE Committees/LSFAs. This team will also provide expert technical support in waste management systems, biodiversity, pollution prevention and control, environmental monitoring/ auditing, training and awareness.

Occupational Health

 

A Robust Health Management System

Leads on building and continuously improving a robust Health Management System at Heritage through the development of systematic health programs, improvement in health capabilities proactively reducing health risks and promoting wellness. This team delivers on Occupational Hygiene, Health Risk Assessments, Case Management, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Health Surveillance, Substance Abuse Testing and Wellness Programs across the entire organization.

HSSE Operations

 

Critical Safety Influence and Maintaining Oversight

Provides critical safety influence and maintains oversight on the day-to-day operational activities across all Business Units. This team provides coverage for work activities, review risk assessments, work packs and conduct self-verification on Control of Work & OMS. Additionally, they facilitate contractor engagement and management, determine trend analysis, ensure that site requirements are adhered to, intervene in unsafe practices and promote safety awareness among employees.

Control of Work

 

Creating a Safe Work Environment

The main objective of this function is to create a work environment that allows tasks to be completed without injury to people, damage to equipment or unwanted releases to the environment. Vital to this effort is the implementation and embedding of the Control of Work (CoW) initiative. The CoW initiative is a company-wide program that closely supports strategic business risk reduction & mitigation and the pursuit of Heritage’s vision of sustainable safe production. It is anticipated that when embedded in Heritage’s operations, the CoW system will present specifically designed principles, standards, and procedures, necessary to consistently achieve safe work outcomes.
